After dealing with yet another snaffoo with one of our favored social media sites last weekend, I went kinda berserk, looking for a place to call home. I already had accounts on some social media sites, and wound up creating at least one more, and I will be somewhat posting to those over time, but I've still been not feeling like I really have "my own home" in the Internet. I'd completely forgotten that I created this site the first time that same social networking site failed me, about four years ago. Call me ADD/ADHD, but that's life, it happens. Sometimes, I get distracted from some of the more awesome things in life. My site here is apparently one of those things.
This site has been, primarily, a personal site with a few donation based sales offerings in the past. I'm not listed as a non-profit, mind you, but I figured that was the best way to raise money for two kittens who I wanted to put down deposits for. Sadly, one of them was murdered by some local boys, just days after I started painting the picture which is now the image at the top of this site. That painting was being sold along with others for that purpose, but nothing ever did sell. I wound up cutting a deal with my apartment manager who allowed me take the remaining kitten in without having to pay for a full pet deposit (since I didn't bring the kitten with me, and they were planning on exterminating all the local feral cats the next day).
Well, that was four years ago, and a lot has changed. I still have Sam! He's grown into a furry, frisky, fun, loving, and very social cat! He's trained and, well, so am I! And, we've had a new edition to our family, Brandy, who was left behind by her former owner, a drunk druggie who had been abusive towards her and doesn't deserve her. Brandy nearly died because of that owner, but I've nursed her back to health, both physically and emotionally, and she's doing well also. I'm a little worse for wear, financially, sleep-wise, and emotionally, due to many, many changes in my life over those four years, but my babies are doing well and that's what matters to me.
I'm inviting everyone to come over here and watch as I rebuild this site into a slightly more business-y site. One of the constraints of social media sites is that they want you to pay them if you're going to advertise anything while using their servers. Ok, that makes sense, and to a point, the service I'm using here does the same thing. However, Weebly.com provides better tools and more of a chance to build your own site, from the ground up, making things the way you like them first, with your own layouts and graphics, and your own web address. They also are not nearly as picky about what you use for content, and they don't delete your site if you don't come back for four years. Granted, I'm intending on just making this my new home, now that I've remembered I even have this site. But I guess the point is, Weebly is just better, and I like it here more.
I'm still going to do my usual blog posts, but due to the nature of how this site is going to be a bit more professional, if you've been following me on social media, then you'll need to log onto those accounts to see my more up close and personal postings. I think this blog will be my "lighter side of Chewy" blog. I'm not going uber professional, mind you - not here. I may create a more professional and truly sales-based site with Weebly and then connect them. But for now, I want to keep things "business casual" around here. I'm going to be posting affiliate links (if I remember correctly, I'm allowed to do that prior to going pro), and some items I'm selling, over time. I'll also be posting pictures of trips I take, my cats, DIY projects, or whatever. In fact, my goal is to move as much of my photo/video content off of my various social media accounts as I can, and just showcase that all here. I'm also getting re-plugged in to a local community solutions group, and will be posting links to their updates posted on social media when those come through as well. It's going to take some time to get that all accomplished, but I believe it can be done.
I'll be moving again soon (the new apartment rocks!), but I'm still on their waiting list. I won't know about November until next week. If not November, then probably December. Anyway, that move will probably take up some of the time I want to be spending on really building my online presence here, but I will also be posting updates about that move here too. Thanks for coming by after all this time! I'm also very grateful to Weebly for keeping my site open, even though I pretty much disappeared for several years. That's a real testament to a site that has a lot of integrity and cares about real people living real lives in the real world.
